Michael J. West, MD, PhD
Endocrinologist and Clinical Director 

Dr. Michael West completed fellowship training in  Endocrinology, Diabetes 
and Metabolism at the world-famous Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, 
during 2005-2008 as part of the American Board of Internal Medicine 
(ABIM) Research Pathway.  Prior to this, he trained in general Internal 
Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA 
during 2003-2005. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal 
Medicine (A.B.I.M.) in both Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes 
and Metabolism.

After completing his fellowship, Dr. West pursued both clinical medicine 
and scientific research as a junior faculty member of the Division of 
Endocrinology at The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Eastern 
Baltimore. From 2008 to 2009, he provided patient care in General 
Endocrinology while researching the translational medical science of how 
obesity relates to cholesterol metabolism in humans. He was awarded 
a prestigious Johns Hopkins University Clinician Scientist Award (CSA) for 
his research in 2009.

Dr. West went to medical and graduate school as part of the combined M.D./Ph.D. program at the Texas A&M University during 1995-2003. Dr. West has published research on various topics including cholesterol, obesity, and viral DNA replication. His work has appeared in academic medical journals including The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Current Opinion in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Obesity, The Journal of Virology, Virology, and Biotechniques. He has been invited as a faculty reviewer for various medical journals including Medicine, Diabetes, and The International Journal of Endocrinology.

As many patients know, and according to recent research published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, there is a dramatic shortage of well-trained clinical endocrinologists throughout the United States. The opportunity to fill a vacant niche as a private endocrinologist in downtown Washington,DC, became apparent and prompted him to take the opportunity to found The Washington Endocrine Clinic, PLLC, in an effort to provide Endocrine care to the many patients in the downtown area who are currently without an Endocrinologist.

Treyce S. Knee, MD

Dr. Treyce Knee is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine 
(ABIM) in both Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. 
After attending graduate and medical school at Boston University 
School of Medicine, she completed Internal Medicine residency followed by
fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at 
National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. She is a fellow of the 
American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (FACE) and
American College of Physicians (FACP). Dr. Knee comes to the Clinic 
after a 20 year successful medical career with the United States Navy including 
overseas tours and has received numerous military medals and honors including 
master teacher of the year award in 2009 from the Navy chapter ACP. She has
remained active in the medical community publishing articles and abstracts 
and has been a requested speaker on topics including insulin management.

Donna S. Westervelt, MS, CRNP, CDE

Donna is a Nurse Practitioner and Certified Diabetes 
Educator who assists Dr. West in the evaluation and treatment of all types of 
diabetes.  She most recently spent nearly seven years at the world-famous 
Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where she was an integral member of 
the Diabetes Management Service and saw patients in both the hospital 
and outpatient clinic settings. Donna brings a wealth of experience to our
growing team of healthcare providers and has dedicated over 25 years 
to providing top-notch healthcare. She is well-versed in the latest diabetes
technologies, including insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors 
(CGM). Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in 
Nursing from Towson University and a Masters in Science from the 
University of Maryland at Baltimore.

Erika Hoffman, MS, CRNP, CCRN
Focus in thyroid disorders and testosterone deficiency

Erika transitioned from the multidisciplinary urologic team at 
The University of California at San Francisco to Washington, DC, 
in early July 2014. Erika brings experience and assists Dr. West in treating
hypothyroidism and hypogonadism and is well versed in the latest medical
 treatments for these disorders. Her educational background includes a 
Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Miami and a Masters 
in Science from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.  Erika is
a strong believer in patient education, patient empowerment using the
latest technology, and the importance of daily diet and lifestyle changes
to aid in medical treatments.

Tammy Peng, RD, LD, CDE
Registered Dietitian, Diabetes Educator, and 
Insulin Pump Trainer

Tammy is the Clinic’s Registered Dietitian and began seeing patients
in March 2012. She graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of 
Science degree with Distinction in Nutritional Sciences. After completing 
her Dietetic Internship at The Medical College of Virginia / VCU School of 
Medicine, she began her career and has spent time counseling patients in
both hospital and outpatient clinic settings. Tammy sees her role as a
nutrition educator and has a special interest in education, diabetes and 
weight management. She enjoys working with her patients and hopes to
add a teaspoon of health to the ingredients of their daily diet and lifestyle.
