Dr. Michael West welcomes this opportunity to bring quality endocrine healthcare to downtown Washington DC. Dr. West continues to be awarded the distinction of "top doctor" by Washingtonian Magazine for 9 consecutive years in Washington D.C. He treats patients with endocrine disorders such as, thyroid disorders, type 1 & 2 diabetes, men with low testosterone.
Dr. West completed his fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the world-famous Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Prior to this, he trained in general Internal Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism.
After completing his fellowship, Dr. West pursued both clinical medicine and scientific research as a faculty member of the Division of Endocrinology at The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Eastern Baltimore. There he provided patient care in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism while researching the translational medical science of how obesity relates to cholesterol metabolism in humans. He was awarded a prestigious Johns Hopkins University Clinician Scientist Award (CSA) for his research.
Dr. West went to medical and graduate school as part of the combined M.D./Ph.D. program at the Texas A&M University. Dr. West has published research on various topics including cholesterol, obesity, and viral DNA replication. His work has appeared in academic medical journals including The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Current Opinion in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Obesity, The Journal of Virology, Virology, and Biotechniques. He has been invited as a faculty reviewer for various medical journals including Medicine, Diabetes, and The International Journal of Endocrinology.
